As we gather in celebration this Sunday for the feast day of the Epiphany, we find ourselves at the intersection of several beautiful gifts: the gift of a new year, the gift of the Three Kings’ journey and the gift of opening the new St. Simon Parish Youth Center. This convergence offers us a profound opportunity to reflect on our faith, make New Year’s resolutions, and embrace the light of Christ in our lives.

The Feast of the Epiphany commemorates the moment when the Three Wise Men, guided by a brilliant star, followed their hearts and the prompting of the Holy Spirit to seek the newborn King, Jesus. Their journey was one of faith, determination, and profound revelation. These magi, representing different nations and backgrounds, brought valuable gifts to honor the child: gold, frankincense, and myrrh. They recognized the divine nature of Jesus, acknowledging Him as the King of Kings and the Savior of the world.

This feast also reminds us that, just as the Magi embarked on a transformative journey to encounter Christ, the start of a new year offers us a fresh opportunity for spiritual growth and renewal for all of us modern day disciples. It is usually a time to make resolutions and commitments that align with our Christian values and faith. As we set our goals and intentions for the year ahead, may we consider the following:

  1. Seek Christ and Commit to More Prayer: Like the Three Kings, let us prioritize our journey of faith. Make a resolution to deepen our relationship with God through prayer, Scripture reading, and attending Mass regularly. Seek Christ in our daily life and allow His light to guide us.
  2. Offer Our Gifts: Just as the Wise Men brought gifts to Jesus, consider how we can share our talents and resources with those in need. Whether it’s through acts of charity, volunteering in our church activities, or supporting other charitable organizations, our gifts can make a difference in the lives of others.
  3. Embrace Diversity: The Magi came from different backgrounds, yet they united in their quest for Christ. Let us remember that our parish is a diverse community, and we are called to embrace and celebrate our differences. Make a resolution to foster unity and understanding within our parish and the wider community. In a special way, I ask us to reach out to our youth and encourage them in all aspects of their lives. We need their love in our community and in our world.
  4. Follow the Star: Just as the star guided the Wise Men to Jesus, allow our faith to be our guiding star. Trust that God will lead us on our journey, even when the path is uncertain. Stay focused on our spiritual goals and trust in His plan.

As we gather to celebrate the Epiphany, let us rejoice in the profound gift of Jesus Christ, our Savior and King. May this feast inspire us to make New Year’s resolutions that draw us closer to Him and help us shine His light in the world.

Wishing you all a blessed and joyful Feast of the Epiphany and a year filled with God’s grace and love. Please come and celebrate the opening of the new youth center with us at 5:00 pm Mass, this Sunday, January 7th. We will have Catholic musician and composer Jesse Manibusan joining us for the Mass and the blessing and opening ribbon cutting ceremony.

God bless,

Fr. Brendan
