4 minutes with Fr. Chris – September 11, 2022 “Water”
Last week, Fr. Chris’ 4 minutes talk on Laudato Si’ focused on water. He asked us have we ever really thought about how much water we us? What we do if we didn’t have access to it? It is something we cannot do without, we use it for so many things in our daily life and we ourselves are made up of 60% of water. In the Genesis account of creation, God created water on the third day which makes it sacred.
He pointed out that our Earth used to have a constant support of water but now demand is exceeding supply. Where we live, we are lucky to have access to water but there are many that are lacking access to clean water. He pointed out that Pope Francis says it is a fundamental right for all to have access to water and it is up to us to ensure we use water responsibly and ensure availability of fresh water to everybody. 4 minutes with Fr. Chris – September 4, 2002 “Care for our environment”
Last week, Fr. Chris talked about cultivating an attitude to care for our environment and to take time to listen to the voice of creation. He said it is rough for our environment at the moment and we have warning signs such as fires in California, floods around the world, diminishing species and rationing of water.
He reminded us that over the years, many of our Popes have been encouraging us to respect the environment, nature and the non-human species that we share this Earth with – Pope John Paul II in 1990, Pope Benedict in 2009 and most notably, Pope Francis in 2015, with his encyclical, Laudato Si.
