Girl Scouts

St. Simon Troops (of the Los Altos Service Unit) range from Daisies (Kinder-1st Grade) through Cadettes (Middle School). Girl Scouts is more than cookies, campfires, and friendship bracelets. In Girl Scouts, girls discover who they are, what they care about and what their talents are. They collaborate with other people locally and globally, to take action and make a difference. Our Troops participate in campouts and Camporees, community service, skill building, field trips, exploring science and STEM, getting outdoors, earn badges and awards (including Catholic religious emblems), environmental advocacy and so much more!

Girl Scouts is 2.7 million strong—1.9 million girls and 800,000 adult volunteers who believe girls can change the world. It began over 100 years ago with one woman, Girl Scouts’ founder Juliette Gordon Low, who believed in the power of every girl. We continue to make her vision a reality, helping girls discover their strengths, passions, and talents. We’re the preeminent leadership development organization for girls.

With Girl Scouts, you’re going to have tons of fun, make new friends, go on fantastic adventures, and do big things! When she’s a Girl Scout, she’s also a G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader). She’s bold, honest and determine to succeed. Goal oriented and ambitious, she’s also a life-long learner who believes no challenge is too difficult. Thinking outside the box is her specialty and she definitely knows how to get things done! She’s courageous and strong, keen to try new things and embrace the unfamiliar. She’s confident, responsible, and committed to improving her world for the better. These are the traits that define girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. This is the Girl Scout DNA. Join us and unleash your inner G.I.R.L!

Scouts BSA (formerly Boy Scouts of America)

Try new things, provide service to others, build self-confidence, and reinforce ethical standards! For more than 100 years, BSA Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are just as relevant in helping youth grow to their full potential as they were in 1910. BSA Scouts (formerly Boy Scouts of America) give youth a sense that they are important individuals. Scouting promotes activities that lead to personal responsibility and high self-esteem. Scouting goes beyond basic skills and promoting teamwork, encouraging youth to achieve a deeper appreciation for service to others in their community. Leadership development is an important part of the program. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives.

Scouts BSA provides opportunities for boys and girls from K through 17 years old, and beyond. Scouts set and lead their own program (within boundaries given by BSA), which consists of regular meetings, rank development, Merit Badges that allow youth to explore topics in-depth and acquire life skills, summer camp, and High Adventure options for older scouts.
