Christmas Giving Tree Collection
Due to the pandemic, we have changed the way we give Christmas gifts to local families in need. The St. Vincent de Paul Society collect gift cards and donations from St. Simon Parishioners so they can give Target and Grocery Store cards to local families in need at Christmas time.
In the past, the annual Giving Tree program was coordinated by St. Simon’s St. Vincent DePaul Society and gave all parishioners the opportunity to provide Christmas gifts to families in need within our own community. The weekend after Thanksgiving, angel cards with family requests were placed on a tree in the Church foyer. Parishioners, without knowing the identity of the recipients, selected an angel and purchased the requested items. Wrapped gifts are returned to the church foyer two weeks before Christmas. Gifts are sorted and bagged by families for delivery. The Saturday before Christmas, parishioners deliver the gifts and boxes of food to the homes of the very grateful recipients. Recipients are interviewed and chosen based on their situation.
